Melvyn Herman Weiland, 76, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Lexington Court Care. Born August 27, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Herman and Mary (Salsgiver) Weiland.
Melvyn was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School. He was employed as a chef, food and beverage manager at the Sheraton Hotel in Ft. Myers, Florida and had worked for Westbrook Country Club and Mansfield Inn. A man of great character, Melvyn loved to joke and tease every now and again. He enjoyed fishing, collecting baseball cards, casinos and travel ~ especially cruises and routinely gave his support to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea (David) McClain of Mansfield; his sons, Kevin (Denise) Weiland of Homestead, Florida and Todd (Mindy) Weiland of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Britney Llewellyn, Nicholas Weiland, Ashton Weiland and Quinn Weiland; his brother, Russell Weiland of Cape Coral, Florida; and his sister, Joyce Hamilton of Mansfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Hamilton.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
